The boys and I just took a wonderful three day trip to Long Beach, WA with my mom... and it was GREAT. Long Beach is on the southern coast of the state, and is part of a large peninsula with several other small communities. I saw somewhere that it's the longest beach in the world, but don't know if that's true or not. I'd like to go back again and explore more- we spent time in the "main street" area of Long Beach, and in Ilwaco but didn't go as far as Oysterville and some of the other towns. There are tons of antique shops, tourist shops, etc ... more than I could possibly visit in one trip! The beach was wonderful- we happened to catch a time when there was no wind and a little bit of cloud cover. It was about 68 degrees, and the sand was nice and warm and soft. The boys had a great time in the sand- and made sure to get it in everyone's hair, ears, mouths, etc. The water was freezing, but that's pretty expected up here in WA. X and I discovered a jellyfish washed up that may still have been alive- it looked nice and plump and moist still. After about half an hour or so, the jellyfish was washed back out to see. Perhaps it's out there floating around and happy!
We rented a little cabin/house at a resort in Ilwaco. It was really nice- the neighboring cabins were unused (probably because we were there in the middle of the week) so we had a mostly quiet environment. The port was visable from our back deck, and there was some sort of concrete business down the hill from us, so we could hear clanks and clangs of metal every now and then, but not bad. It's probably quieter on the weekend. We spent time swimming at the resort's indoor pool, and enjoyed it for the most part. There were several other campers who weren't following resort rules so there were quite a few unsupervised children (from around ages 8-14) in the pool. Other than that, I enjoyed the resort and plan to return. Perhaps next time we'll try a motel in town... we'll see!
It was about a three and a half hour drive for us, which is just far enough to be considered a vacation for us! The drive down is nice, and the destination is well worth it. I think it may be surpassing my usual ocean destination, Ocean Shores. It's a little farther, but there's so much to do! I'm already looking forward to going again, hopefully with husband along this next time.
